Jenin Yaseen

Jenin is a local artist and organizer in Michigan. Jenin is the founder of Al Sumoud. She also founded For the Binat; an organization dedicated to dismantling the patriarchy in Dearborn, Michigan, and beyond.

She graduated with a double major in Accounting and Finance from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2019. Jenin discovered her passion for justice and love for grassroots organizing through her activism work at the University of Michigan Dearborn. On campus, she was a student govt official, successfully led divestment campaigns on both her campus, and UofM-Flint, while dedicating her free time in helping newly settled refugees & immigrants reach self-sufficiency.

Jenin strongly believes in the power of collectivism through community organizing. “We see that local issues in Dearborn are brought up online for a short period of time, but there is never work being done consistently to counter these issues at the roots. Al Sumoud is meant to be a tool to strengthen our community and remind us of our duty to be good to ourselves and those around us.”
